Tonsils
are the 2 lymph nodes found at the rear part of our throat, helping us to put
off infection to enter in our body. Therefore when they themselves develop an
infection, such condition is known as “Tonsillitis.”
What are
the possible causes that trigger tonsillitis?
The
infection of tonsil can be caused by various viruses, and this can’t be identified
unless your physician will advise you to undergo a testing.
How
would you know if you have tonsillitis? Symptoms are:
Ache when you swallow
Headache
Runny nose
Fever
Presence of white patches on your tonsils
Eyes redness
Nausea
Vomiting
Cough
Ear pain
Loss of appetite
Sore throat
Sore throat
If you have some of the above-mentioned symptoms, you may start your
treatment with the following home medications:
- Gargle with saltwater
to help remove the mucus in your throat.
- Sip some warm broth or
tea with honey for relief.
- Lonzenges also helps
to moisturize your throat (but for little children, make sure to consult a
doctor as these can cause them choking hazard)
- Cold foods would also
do such as ice cream, ice candies, or popsicle to comfort the throat.
- Get enough rest.
Stop it from spreading through:
- Close contact with an infected person who sneezes or coughs near you
- Touch an object where a droplets are present
Don’t let the tonsil gets worst or this would lead you to a petrifying
surgical procedure called tonsillectomy. Most procedures involve the removal of
tonsils utilizing the traditional scalpel. But with the advance technology today,
doctors also use lasers, electrocautery to cut, radio waves, ultrasonic energy,
and more. Of course, each of these techniques may have benefits to patients as
well as drawbacks. That’s why it’s vital to discuss with your doctor (or your
child’s doctor) about the right procedure to use for safety purposes.
